Take Your Kid to Publishing Day!

"Take Your Kid to Publishing Day!" is a free event for children that was inspired by Danielle Render Turmaud’s picture book TAKE YOUR DAUGHTER TO WORK DAY (on submission--for editors interested in receiving this submission, please contact Danielle's agent: Rebecca Angus at Howland Literary). The hope for this event is to foster children’s love for reading, writing, and belief that they can be and do what they want to in the world.

Information on the Summer 2025 "Take Your Kid to Publishing Day!" Event:

The What

This virtual event invites children 5+ to meet literary agents, editors, and published authors/illustrators. Children will have the opportunity to engage in fun activities and conversations, listen to published children's books, and engage in Q&As with the authors and publishing professionals. (Event agenda to come in coming months but we have A LOT of fun in store potentially including but not limited to: children participants writing stories with the pub professionals that will be published on Danielle's website, children's books/teen book readings from authors, Q&A, and more).

The When

This virtual event will take place Saturday, July 19th at 9:00 a.m. PST/12:00 p.m. EST. The event will be approximately 1 to 1.5 hours (agenda and optional activities to be finalized in the coming months and will be communicated to registered participants).

The How

If you have a 5+ year old child who is interested in this event, fill out the registration page here! Please note that a legal guardian will need to complete this form to give consent for their child/children to participate. (*Please note that registration spots may be limited based upon the Zoom account participant limitations. If you are interested in registering and the registration form is closed, contact Danielle through the contact form on the bottom of this page to get added to the waitlist). It is requested that younger children have a guardian or adult with them or nearby to aid in accessing the event/attending the event and/or support them in engaging as they feel interested in doing so.

If you are a literary agent, editor, or published (or soon to be published) author/illustrator who would like to take part in this event, please find the interest form link here or email Danielle directly with questions. (*Please note that these slots may eventually be filled and availability will be based upon registration numbers.)

The Who and the Why?

The publishing world can feel confusing, elusive, or be unknown altogether! This event allows children to get a “hands on experience” in learning how the publishing world brings meaningful books into the world. Whether a child wants to be an author/publishing professional one day, or is just curious, this event will foster their love for reading, writing, and let their voices be heard! Children will have the opportunity to meet with literary agents, authors, editors, and other publishing professional volunteers (the list of publishing professional participants being finalized and will be communicated to registered participants closer to the event).

In the meantime, here are some meaningful resources to help your child foster a love for writing and reading!

Lit Kids Magazine features stories, poetry, essays, photography, and art by children ages 5 to 13 years old. They publish quarterly themed issues and provide mentorship through the editing process. Their goal is to empower kids to share their creativity with the world!
